DAVID HARVEY

One of the founding Directors of the Asian Finance Group

He spent more than 16 years with the Industrial Bank of Japan group in both Australia and Tokyo and also spent more than 2 years with a major Japanese automotive components company.

Prior to being seconded to IBJ Securities in Tokyo in 1995, he headed IBJ Australia Bank’s capital markets department with specific responsibility for the relationship management of Australian and New Zealand government entities.

He left his position as Deputy General Manager of Mizuho Securities at the end of 2000 to concentrate on commitments with the Asian Finance Group.

In Tokyo, he was responsible for English language resources on the Japanese financial system for the IBJ Global Network and its clients as well as work on Asset-Backed Securities and Euro Medium Term Notes.

While with IBJ (now Mizuho) David developed a critically acclaimed English language web-site for Mizuho Securities that continues to be developed for Mizuho Securities through an arrangement with the Asian Finance Group.

While in Tokyo, David served as President of the Kaisha Society, a professional organization for foreign executives working for Japanese corporations. Since 1996, David has been a frequent commentator in Japanese and English on the Japanese economy and financial markets for media outlets such as the Financial Times and Bloomberg. He appeared regularly on CNN, CNBC and Reuters TV. While based in Tokyo, he also made a number of presentations in Japanese on Tokyo’s prime morning business news program broadcast by Television Tokyo.

David holds a Bachelor of Science; Graduate Diploma in Banking and Finance and Graduate Diploma of Japanese Studies from Monash University, Australia. He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and also an Associate of Music Australia (Piano).
